House rules

Version 2026-08-04

Genie Connect belongs to the centre and is for Genie students. These are the rules. Most of them the app enforces by itself — they are not requests.

Your account is yours

The centre issued it to you. Don't lend it, don't share your password, and don't sign in as anyone else. If someone else knows your password, tell the front desk and we'll change it.

Chops are earned, not traded

Chops come from named things: turning up on time, joining in, quizzes, challenges, bonus missions. Teachers can only award class chops; anything bigger comes from the front desk. Chops can't be transferred between students, and the record of every chop is permanent — it can be corrected, but never erased.

Homework is not worth chops. It decides what everything else is worth: if your homework is not done, every chop you earn that lesson is halved.

Chops are not money. They have no cash value, can't be bought, and can't be refunded.

Rewards

You claim a reward in the app and collect it at the front desk. If you're in P4 to P6 you claim at the desk with a teacher rather than on your own. Stock is real and limited — if something runs out, your chops come back. The centre can change what's in the catalogue and what it costs.

Cheers go to houses, never to people

You can cheer a whole house. You cannot write to another student, and no student can write to you — the app has no way to do it at all. One cheer at a time, and it stays up for a week.

Cheers are checked automatically for links, phone numbers and unkind words, and staff can take any cheer down.

Messages

Genie — the centre — can write to you, and you can write to Genie. There's one button, Ask the front desk, and it always goes to the same place: the centre. You can't choose a particular member of staff to message, and you can't message another student — those aren't settings, the app has no way to do either.

Every message is readable by the centre's admin. Nothing here is private between you and an adult, and that's deliberate. Messages can't be deleted; if a message was sent by mistake, staff can withdraw it, which hides the words but keeps the record that it happened.

Photos

Some bonus missions ask for a photo. Sending one is your choice, and there's a separate tick each time if you're happy for the centre to use it to show people what Genie is like. Don't send photos of other people without asking them. If you change your mind about a photo, tell the front desk.

Notifications

You can turn on notifications so your phone tells you about a new notice or a message from Genie. That is all they are ever used for. Turn them off any time, in the app or in your phone's settings.

Be decent

Nothing unkind, and nothing about another student. On the cheer wall and in reward ideas — the places other students read — no links, no phone numbers, no addresses either; the app blocks a lot of this automatically. In your private Messages with Genie you can send links and numbers when the centre needs them. Staff can remove anything, and serious or repeated misuse means the account is switched off — that's a conversation with your parents, not just with you.

The app can change

The centre may change how chops are earned, what rewards cost, or how any of this works. If something important changes, you'll see it in the app the next time you open it.

Using it is optional

Genie Connect is an extra, not a requirement. Nothing about your classes, your fees or your place at the centre depends on using it, and you can ask for your account to be closed at any time.
