What Genie Connect knows about you

Version 2026-08-04 · Bukit Batok & Yishun

The short version, for students

Genie Connect is the centre's own app. Here's what it keeps about you, in plain words.

What it knows

Your name, your level and which branch you come to. Your classes. Your house. How many chops you've earned and what you earned them for. Rewards you've claimed. Challenges you've answered. Cheers you've written. Messages between you and Genie.

What it does not know

Your phone number, your home address, your birthday, your school results, your NRIC, or anything your parents have told the centre. None of that is in this app, and none of it ever comes across.

Who can see it

You can see your own. Your teachers can see your name and the chops they give you in class. The centre's admin can see everything — including any message between you and Genie. Nothing you write here is private from the centre, and that is on purpose: you are under 18, and an adult should always be able to check that you are being treated properly.

What other students see

Your name and house on the class board and in your house's totals, and your name on any cheer you write. When you finish a bonus mission, the cheer wall announces it for 7 days: your name, the mission and the chops it paid. That's it. They cannot see your chops balance, your messages, or anything you've claimed. Cheers go to a whole house, never to a person — so nobody can send you anything, and you can't send anything to them.

Photos

If a bonus mission asks for a photo, you choose whether to send one. There's a separate tick each time if you're happy for the centre to use it to show people what Genie is like. You can say no and still do the mission. If you change your mind later, tell the front desk.

Notifications on your phone

You can switch on notifications so your phone tells you when the centre posts a notice or the Genie writes to you. Nothing else buzzes — not chops, not rewards, not house scores. It is your choice, you can switch it off whenever you like, and what it says is kept vague on purpose because other people can see your lock screen.

If something feels wrong

Tell the front desk, or ask a parent to email info@genieeduhub.com. You can ask what the app holds about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for your account to be closed.

1. Who we are

Genie Connect is operated by Genie Education Hub ("the centre"), a tuition centre with branches at Bukit Batok and Yishun. This notice explains what personal data the app collects about your child, why, who can see it, and how long we keep it. It is written to meet our obligations under Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).

2. Accounts are issued by us

There is no sign-up. Every account is created by the centre from our own class roster and issued to a student as a username and password. A child cannot create an account, and neither can anyone else. For students in P4 to P6, and for any student under 13, the account is only activated once a parent or guardian has given their consent themselves — either by texting 91817689 with the student's name to ask for the login, or by opening a one-time declaration link we send them and typing their name. Either way, the parent's own act is how we record the consent.

3. What we collect

From our roster, and nothing more:

Created inside the app as the student uses it:

4. What we deliberately do not collect

The app is built so that the following can never enter it, whatever happens on the centre's other systems: parent or guardian contact details, telephone numbers, email addresses, home addresses, date of birth, NRIC or FIN, the student's school, examination results, attendance records, fees, payments or credit notes.

This is enforced in the app's design rather than by policy alone: the nightly transfer from our administration system carries four fields — name, level, branch and class — and nothing else, and it runs in one direction only.

5. Who can see what

These are not settings that could be changed by mistake in the interface — they are enforced by the database itself, which will not return data to someone who should not have it.

6. Phone notifications

Notifications are off unless a student turns them on, and we only ever offer them to a student whose consent we already hold — which for P4 to P6 means a parent's. Turning them on is a deliberate action by the student, and their phone asks them to confirm.

We send two kinds and no others: a new notice from the centre, and a message from the front desk. Chops, rewards and house standings never notify. Each kind can be switched off separately, and the whole thing can be switched off at any time from within the app or in the phone's own settings.

What a notification says is deliberately vague — "Genie sent you a message", never the message itself — because a notification appears on a locked screen that other people can see.

The device address is deleted when notifications are switched off, and automatically after 180 days without use, so a phone that has been sold or passed on stops receiving.

7. How long we keep it

While your child is enrolled with the centre, and for 12 months after they leave, after which their record is deleted. Messages between a student and Genie are kept for 12 months and then deleted. Photos submitted to bonus missions are deleted when the mission closes unless you have agreed to their wider use, in which case we keep them until you tell us to stop.

8. Where it is stored

In a database hosted in Singapore. The app's pages are served from a global content network, but the data itself does not leave Singapore in the ordinary course of running the app.

9. Consent, and withdrawing it

We ask for consent once, before an account is switched on. For students in P4 to P6, and any student under 13, a parent or guardian gives it themselves — by texting us at 91817689 to request the login, or by signing a one-time declaration link we send them: the link page shows what saying yes covers, and records only the name they type, the date, and that the link was used. The parent's request or signature is the consent, and we note it on the student's record. Students aged 13 and over may consent themselves: when they first sign in with the QR we give them, they confirm they are 13 or older and are shown this notice and the house rules. A student who tells us they are under 13 is treated exactly like a P4 to P6 student — a parent requests the login. You may withdraw consent at any time by contacting us; we will close the account and delete the record. Withdrawing consent does not affect your child's place in class — Genie Connect is optional, and no part of their tuition depends on using it.

You may also ask us what the app holds about your child, and ask us to correct anything wrong.

10. Who to contact

Our Data Protection Officer is Rubin Zheng.

Email info@genieeduhub.com, or speak to the front desk at either branch and ask for the Data Protection Officer.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may raise the matter with the Personal Data Protection Commission at pdpc.gov.sg.

11. Changes to this notice

If we change anything that matters, students are shown the change in the app the next time they open it and asked to acknowledge it, and the version date at the top of this page changes.
